Teenage boy arrested in deaths of 3 family members found in burned California cabin

PLACERVILLE, Calif. (AP) — A 16-year-old boy has been charged with killing his father, the father’s fiancee and their 8-year-old son, whose burned bodies were found in a cabin in Northern California.

El Dorado County Sheriff John D’Agostini said at a news conference that 16-year-old Nolan Buchanan was arrested at his high school in Benicia on Thursday. District Attorney Vern Pierson says Buchanan has been charged as an adult with three counts of murder.

Authorities found the bodies in the aftermath of the fire Sept. 13 at the family’s cabin in Greenwood, about 50 miles northeast of Sacramento.

The remains were identified as 38-year-old Benicia resident Adam Buchanan, his 37-year-old fiancee Molly McAfee, and their son Gavin.

It wasn’t clear whether Nolan Buchanan has an attorney yet who could comment on his case.
