Two-A-Days: St. Johns Red Wings

Another local team that was out at midnight was Dave Mariage’s St. Johns Red Wings.

But we slept a little bit after the Okemos practice and went back here this afternoon.

The Red Wings uncustomarily missed the playoffs last year with a 5-and-4 record this team should be loaded on the offensive and defensive lines.
The development of the other skill players may determine how far this team goes this year.

Mariage, now in his 18th season here, couldn’t wait to get another season started:

“It’s good to be back and these kids are excited to be here,” said the coach.

Reporter: Do you still have the same fun and excitement you did eighteen years ago?
Mariage: “I hope so. You would have to go back and ask the kids and some of these coaches played for me so you’d have to ask them. You could look at the tape.”

“I think its a little bit harder to re-energize every year ,” adds Miarage. “I think it takes a little bit more when you’re a little bit older, and to be honest, that’s what I do and if I ever lose that, it’s time to quit coaching.”
