LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Members of the Electoral College will formally cast their votes to officially elect Donald Trump as our next president on Monday.

Groups nationwide are campaigning to block that from happening citing Russian influence in the presidential election.

Here in Michigan, a group is trying to stop President-elect Trump from getting in the White House by asking electors to step-in and reject his presidency.

They say the Electoral College was created to prevent a candidate from taking office if the person is unfit or controlled by a foreign power and with accusations of Russian influence in the 2016 election, this group says Trump should be stopped.

Organizers are meeting at the Capitol from noon to 4:00 p.m. on Monday and their mission is to persuade Michigan electors to not cast their ballot for Trump.

State law requires all 16 electoral votes to automatically go to the president-elect and any electors who do not vote for Mr. Trump will be immediately replaced with somebody who will follow the law.

Advocates at Monday’s demonstration are calling for an end to that obligation.
