JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) – A multi-million dollar construction project is coming to Jackson.
Henry Ford Allegiance Health recently announced a major expansion of their medical center on East Michigan Avenue.
The goal is to make sure those who come to the hospital have a more private and comfortable stay.
With a cost of $45 million, this will be the biggest construction project for Henry Ford Allegiance in the past decade.
“We’re very excited about it,” said CEO Georgia Fojtasek.
Fojtasek says patients have been asking for more privacy.
“And also the staff and physicians telling us that we could use larger rooms,” Fojtasek said.
A three story building will be added to the medical complex with 66 state of the art private rooms.
“They’re spacious; they provide ample room for the patient, the staff. The equipment can be hidden behind cabinetry so it creates more of a healing environment. Very deliberate space for families,” Fojtasek said.
Another project has already started construction on the medical campus, a new center for medical innovation and education.
“We’re equally excited about that addition,” Fojtasek said.
The recent partnership with Henry Ford Health has allowed these new projects to move forward.
Fojtasek says it’s also important for the medical center to evolve as Jackson rebounds from the recession.
“I think there’s a lot happening in Jackson. And the community support for the health system and the partnership with Henry Ford Health has been strong. It’s a great time for the health system and the work we need to do,” Fojtasek said.
Construction will start in February 2017.
The medical center hopes to have the new addition complete sometime in 2018.

Officials from Henry Ford Allegiance Health say they’re adding to their medical center.
In the coming years the shape of Henry Ford Allegiance Health will change dramatically.
And it’s all to make sure patients have a more comfortable stay.
Construction will start this winter on a three-story patient tower.
It’s going to be built above the “Heart and Vascular Center” on the medical campus and will have 66 private rooms for patients.
Henry Ford Allegiance, which has the only hospital in Jackson, says they want to keep up with the growing demand for more private rooms.
