From snakes to pasta, annual displays set for Capitol lawn

LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – The annual collection of holiday displays on the Capitol lawn is growing by one.

The Michigan State Capitol Commission today approved an application from The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster to place a holiday display on the lawn.

This would be the second year the church has been granted a display space on the Capitol lawn.

The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, whose website says it “does not require literal belief in order to provide spiritual enlightenment,” requested a space on the lawn in response to a Christian Nativity display in the same location.

Those displays will be joined by a “Snaketivity” display presented by The Satanic Temple of Detroit.

State Senator Rick Jones is expected to return to put up a Christian Nativity display this year.

The displays are expected to be on the Capitol lawn from December 15-21.
