Izzo: Team is learning on the go, coaches challenged with young team

EAST LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – Coming off a 71-63 win over Tennessee Tech on Saturday, Michigan State’s third in a row, the Spartans now go six more days until their next game.

Which gives the student athletes time to take their final exams, and Tom Izzo and his staff a chance to evaluate one-third of the way through the season.

While addressing the media Monday, Izzo spoke of the fact that the combination of challenges this year between scheduling, injuries and inexperience have made for a turbulent ride, but he hopes this team can still meet its goals.

“The standards that we try to set I think it’s just been a little harder for our freshman to understand that and I think the lack of maybe upper classmen of that we don’t have the Denzel’s and Costello’s and Colby’s especially so we’re kind of learning on the run, learning as we go and last week we put more of an emphasis on coaching a little, I think we made some progress, I think each week we make some progress.”

The Spartans play Sunday against Northeastern at Breslin.
