Safety For You: Christmas trees and fire

(WLNS) – With the holidays fast approaching many people are putting up their trees.

And while a real tree is beautiful it can be a fire danger.

Today the state fire marshal joined with the Delhi Township fire chief for a demonstration on just how fast a dry tree can go up in flames.

This time of year fire dangers are high so you need to be careful.

“Make sure it’s watered daily, make sure that you use lights that are approved by testing laboratory and we have those testing laboratory links online at the state fire marshal’s website,” said state Fire Marshal Julie Secontine.

Officials say its also important to have a home fire escape plan and to make sure your smoke detectors are working.
