UPDATE: Jackson Police release name of victim in fatal party store shooting

JACKSON, Mich (WLNS) – Jackson Police have released the identity of a store clerk shot to death during a robbery attempt on the night before Thanksgiving.

31-year-old Mehman Singh was shot in the neck and later died in a local hospital.

Police in Jackson say they’re still searching for three men who tried to rob a city party store and fatally shot Singh.

It happened around 9pm last Wednesday at the Log Cabin store on the 500 Block of 4th Street.

According to police, two men went into the store looking to get away with some money.

A third man stood at the door but did not enter the store.

Police say, once inside, the two men pulled out one handgun and one long gun.

The man with the long gun fired his weapon, hitting Singh once in the neck.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

There are always two employees working at the party store, but since it was the night before a holiday, only one was on staff.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Brett Stiles at (517) 768-8722 or can report anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Mid Michigan at (855) 840-7867.
