Shoppers get head start before Black Friday craze

OKEMOS, Mich. (WLNS) – It’s that time of year again…no not Christmas, but Black Friday.

The time of year when people will stand in line for hours to snag deals on anything from TV’s to DVD’s.

“I want to buy a bunch of things so you know a lot of savings,” said shopper Abhishek Mutha.

“I live for it, absolutely,” Shopper Tammy Waller stated.

It’s not officially Black Friday but stores kicked things off a little early.

And it’s not just shoppers who look forward to this day every year, stores like Best Buy do as well.

“This is our super bowl of holidays drive time so we start planning a couple months specifically in advance for promotions, staffing, security a lot of that stuff,” said Okemos Best Buy General Manager Jeremiah Hernandez.

Hernandez says Best Buy brings in at least 30 extra employees to work during the Black Friday frenzy.

“We’re very prideful of that, take care of our customers and take care of our employees, that’s the main objective for us,” Hernandez stated.

And to shoppers…these are deals you can’t beat.

“Checked the ad before and then came in and saw it and I grabbed it,” Shopper Adam Niehigh stated.

“Good prices man, good prices,”

But it wasn’t just Best Buy that opened its doors early…shoppers filled their carts full of merchandise at Target and at Kohl’s, the half off sales drew dozens of people to the register.

Many shoppers we talked to say the crowds and long lines are worth the bargain.

“We were both here last year for Black Friday the morning so yeah we’d definitely do it again,” said Niehigh.

Best Buy in Okemos closes their doors at 1 a.m. but will re-open at 8 a.m. Friday morning with additional sales for shoppers.
