Wayne State University Police Officer shot in the head, person of interest in custody

DETROIT, MI (WLNS) – 6 News is following breaking news at this hour out of Detroit, where a Wayne State University police officer is in grave condition and fighting for his life after he was shot in the head earlier tonight.

As for the person who might have pulled the trigger, Detroit Police say they have a person of interest in custody.

He’s been identified as Deangelo Davis. At this point, police have not confirmed Davis is in fact, the shooter.

Here’s what police are saying about this incident so far: Just before 7 p.m. Tuesday night, a Wayne State University police officer was on duty, just west of campus, investigating a possible car theft.

Police say he tried to stop an individual on a bicycle. That’s when the officer was shot once in the head. The officer has not been identified by name, but police do say he is a five year veteran with the university’s police department.
