UPDATE: BWL claims substation trip causes outage in parts of Lansing

UPDATE 9:10 a.m. – The Lansing Board of Water and Light now says power has been restored to 15,300 customers that were blacked out this morning. BWL says the Northeast Substation tripped off line at 8:26 a.m. Power was restored at 8:48 a.m.

LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – Power is out in a wide area of northeast and north Lansing this morning.

It’s not known what caused thousands of Board of Water and Light customers to lose power just before 8:30 a.m.

There are many traffic lights affected by the the outage.

At 9:00 a.m. it is estimated that 3,356 customers are without power.

BWL officials now estimate that power will be restored around 2:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. today.

Lansing Police remind drivers to treat any intersection with a non-functioning traffic light as a four-way stop.
