LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – Rep. Sam Singh of East Lansing has been selected as the House Democratic Leader for the upcoming session.
Singh was named by the Michigan House Democratic Caucus Thursday.
He is currently the House Democratic floor leader and has been in the state House since 2012.
The 45-year-old Singh has been mayor of East Lansing and served ten years as an East Lansing City Council member.
He holds a history degree from MSU.
Singh says his commitment continues to be bringing good-paying jobs to the state, bringing world-class education to each child and building a strong economy.
Earlier in the day House Republicans named Rep. Tom Leonard of DeWitt as the next Speaker of the House when the new session opens in January.
