Potter Park Zoo names new director

LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – The new director of the Potter Park Zoo is very familiar with the job.

Cynthia Wagner has been the interim Zoo Director since last April.

Today she dropped the “interim” from her job description.

She’s been a part of the Potter Park Zoo staff for more than 13 years as a zookeeper and general curator.

Nine qualified applicants from seven states were interested in the Zoo Director position.

That list was narrowed to five candidates to interview and when that process was complete the choice was clear.

“After talking to the five finalists for the zoo director position, Cindy established herself as a clear frontrunner for the job,” said Ingham County Controller Administrator Tim Dolehanty. “The selection committee was unanimous in its support of Cindy, and we look forward to her ongoing contributions to our team.”

Wagner oversees a staff of more than 50 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees.

The annual budget is $3.6 million.
