Breast cancer resources, and where Komen funds go

(WLNS) – Breast Cancer Awareness month is wrapping up but the funds gathered by all these pink events help a lot of people throughout the year.

Michigan State University received more than $70,000 this year to help fund resources and research for the community.

Dr. Mary Smania works with Michigan State and helps with outreach and says the funds from Komen help make screening affordable to everyone.

They also help current survivors with resources and tools, including an event coming up Saturday November 5, where women are invited to learn about eating healthy, staying in shape, healthcare disparities, genetics and facts about the disease.
