EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Whether you’re a diehard MSU fan or bleed maize and blue, there’s one thing that’s for sure about today’s game…these fans know how to represent their team.

“Go green!” and “Number one baby, let’s go! Go blue!”…these were a few common phrases fans were shouting today.

It’s the game Spartan and Wolverine fans crave with anticipation every year.

“I’ve been looking forward to this game every day,” said Wolverine fan Mary Spadafore.

“You can’t beat it you know, everyone’s here for the same reason…we all love our Spartans,” Proud MSU fan Mackey Daniel stated.

Fans rooting for both teams flooded East Lansing today and with that came a lot of traditions or you could call them superstition to bring their team’s good luck.

“I’ve always worn this visor, I don’t know why but ever since I’ve worn this visor we’ve been killing it,” said Colin Highet, MSU student.

“Friday night before a home game mom’s meatloaf…hundred percent,” Daniel said.

It’s no meatloaf but even U of M fans, including Brandon Heick brought out a few tricks under his sleeve.

“I’m wearing the same t-shirt that I’ve worn all season below this t-shirt…I had to wear it,” Heick stated.

Win or lose, whether it be students, alumni or proud parents school spirit didn’t keep either fan from representing their team today and every chance they had, they were sure to let their opponents know the competition is always on.

“Go home,” Daniel added.

U of M fan Jessica Wolff said “go blue, beat state.”

Even MSU fan Highet said “good luck,” to the opposing team.

And Heick mentioned “state’s owned us the last couple years but until today we’re going to learn what the next ten years is going to be like.”

It was a tough loss for the Spartans today, as Michigan walked away with the Paul Bunyan, giving MSU fans even more energy and hype for next year’s rivalry game.
