Jobs Fair geared for young workers

LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – Unemployment for young people here in Michigan is more than twice the national average but there’s a hiring expo going on right now in Lansing that may change that.

Almost 17-percent of people between the age of 16 and 24 don’t have jobs in our state but there are lots of businesses desperate for seasonal help.

Representatives from places like Sears, K-mart, Kroger and Sparrow are at tonight’s event, looking for new workers.

That’s why folks at Peckham are working to help.

They’re hosting this event and even have a “prep station” for job-seekers where people can get some last-minute help before heading out for interviews.

“You know now everything is electronic and you submit applications online, but they get to put their personalities out there and say okay, I’m looking for a job, I’m your person, now you get to see me face to face, so it’s just awesome,” says sparrow recruitment coordinator Ferrante Jones.

If you’re between 16 and 24, and you’re looking for a job, you can head down to the Peckham building until 6:30 tonight.

It’s located right on Capital City Boulevard in Lansing off of North Grand River Avenue, near the airport.
