White SUV sightings spook neighborhood

It’s not creepy clowns that have spooked the residents of a mid-Michigan neighborhood.

It’s a car.

A white SUV, to be exact.

Sightings of a white SUV that appears to be following people prompted a local police chief to write a letter to neighbors of the Springbrook Hills Neighborhood Association in DeWitt Township.

The letter from Chief Brian Russell says that on October 16, a white Chevrolet Trailblazer followed a young man in the area. The person told his mom, who went looking for the SUV and found it in the city of DeWitt. They got the license plate number, and from there, a detective with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department talked to the owner – an Eagle Township resident.

After that, police say a jogger in Springbrook Hills said they were being followed by a white SUV, so they stopped at a neighbor’s house to call police. Officers responded, but the SUV got away. Police say there’s an open stalking case and that they plan to charge the driver if that person is found.

So police are encouraging anyone who sees a suspicious white SUV to call 911 so police can respond.

The chief also apologized to the owner of a white SUV who has already been pulled over twice and thanked them for their understanding.
