DEWITT, Mich (WLNS) – Last week, the DeWitt Panther ended Menominee’s 38 game regular season win streak with a resounding 48-14 win, and this effort was fueled by the feeling DeWitt was left with after losing to Menominee in 2015.
“That was a tough loss for us, we lost the last 30 seconds of the game, they drove down the field and punched it in on us and that was tough for our kids to take” said Panthers coach Rob Zimmerman. “I guess from a physical standpoint they got us so we had a lot of games we were looking forward to this year, but that certainly was one of them because of the sour taste from last season”
“Such a great experience I mean coming back after last year, it was a hard loss last year.” Said senior linebacker Michael Stygles “and then coming back and winning this year the way we did just kind of made it so much more special.”
With just one game left in the regular season the Panthers are already assured a playoff berth, but they hope to avoid the disappointing exit they endured in 2015,
“Ya know I don’t think we’ve really changed anything other than the fact that we’ve put more stress on getting better from week one ya know until now” said a determined Zimmerman.
According to Stygles, the players feel the same way, “Every week we just try to focus on just getting better and working on what we need to fix and uh just focusing on the team we play not looking ahead, try to just take it one game at a time.”
Congratulations to the DeWitt Panthers, our 6 Sports Team of the Week.
