DEWITT, Mich (WLNS) – This is 6 Sports Player of the Week day and this week’s recipient is well deserving of the hardware.
She’s in the running for this year’s Michigan Miss Volleyball.
And just last year alone racked up 511 kills and 269 blocks.
And this season, she is well on her way of topping both of those. She’s at 1500 kills already and a role model on and off the court.
She can spike, she can block and did we mention, Lexi Nordmann started playing volleyball only five years ago?
“One of my friends said she wanted me to come to a tryout down in Wixom and she said you get a free t-shirt. It will be good, just kinda see what kinda team you get on,” said Lexi Nordmann. “And then I ended up being placed on a national team and I just fell in love with the sport after that.”
And the sport certainly fell in love with her. Just last season alone she racked up 511 kills and 269 blocks.
And this season “I think I’m at 1500 right now,” she says.
“She leads us in kills obviously, 64 kills this weekend in our tournament on six errors,” said DeWitt coach Christy Drayton. “I think that’s what makes her so special; very many attempts with very little errors.”
Special is an understatment, in the fall, this 6-foot-1 middle hitter will be continuing her success on the court at the division one level at Southern Methodist University.
“If you would of told me like in junior high that that ‘hey you’re gonna have a Division 1 scholarship to play down in Dallas Texas I would of thought you were crazy.”
Her coach adds “she deserved that, she worked really, really hard for that and I think that it was just a lot of pressure off of her to have a great senior season because she already verballed somewhere.”
Congratulations Lexi Nordmann our 6 Sports Prep Player of the Week.
