Jackson man sentenced to prison for abusing newborn son

JACKSON, Mich (WLNS) – A Jackson man has been sentenced to prison for abusing his newborn son.

27-year-old Lawrence Rinesmith took a plea deal earlier this year after the three-week-old boy was found with multiple fractures in his arm, leg and ribs.

According to our media partners at MLive and the Jackson Citizen Patriot Rinesmith wept when Jackson County Circuit Court Judge John McBain handed down the sentence for second-degree child abuse.

“You are trying to frame this as a careless act, but this is one of the worst abuse cases I have ever seen in all my years,” Judge McBain said.

The child did survive.

Rinesmith will spend between 5 and 10 years in prison.
