LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – The Ingham County Board of Commissioners has approved spending up to $20,000 to hire a retired Assistant Prosecuting Attorney.

That person will work with the Michigan State Police conduct an audit of the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office evidence room.

Ingham County Prosecuting Attorney Gretchen Whitmer has requested that the State Police audit the evidence room because an unknown amount of evidence was destroyed or damaged in a water leak several years ago.

The retired Ingham County Prosecuting Attorney will be hired because of the familiarity with the county criminal justice system.

The Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office will be coordinating the audit with the Michigan State Police and the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office.
