East Lansing looks to ease restrictions on marijuana

EAST LANSING, Mich. – East Lansing City Council is taking another look at officially amending its laws to decriminalize the possession of less than one ounce of marijuana for people over 21.

Attorney Jeff Hank expressed his approval of the council’s actions.

Almost two-thirds of the city’s voters approved decriminalization, but instead of changing the ordinance the council directed police not to enforce it.

Hank says that putting the change on the books in the city will improve relations with the community.

Possession or use on public property, or use by people under 21, will be a civil offense with a $25 fine.
