LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Governor Rick Snyder has proclaimed this week fire prevention week, reminding people to keep safe from a house fire.
Last year, more than 100 people died in Michigan because of house fires and fire departments responded to close to 14,000 fires statewide.
This year’s theme is “Don’t Wait, Check the Date”.
Smoke alarms need to be replaced every 10 years and it is also recommended to test smoke alarms monthly using the test button.
The last way to prepare for house fires is having a fire escape plan.
