Skubick: Poll shows support for Snyder slipping

LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – Governor Rick Snyder has only one group in Michigan that gives him high marks for his job performance.

As 6 News reported this week only 32 percent of the voters give the governor and excellent or good job rating while 66 percent conclude he is doing fair or poor, but when you dive deeper into the numbers there is only one bright spot.

69 percent of the Republicans like what the governor is doing while 28 percent of his own party do not.

However in mid-Michigan the numbers are flipped.

61 percent disapprove while 37 percent approve of the job he is doing.

He is most popular in west Michigan where he gets 41 percent approval.

The data from the EPIC-MRA survey shows how deep the dissatisfaction goes.

(1) Independents 68 percent-30 percent disapprove
(2) Men-Women 66 percent-32 percent disapprove
(3) Income: $100,000-45 percent disapprove

These awful numbers can be traced to the governor’s connection to the Flint water crisis.

He has been criticized for his tardy response and with a criminal investigation coming to a head, depending on who is charged, his ratings could get worse.

The governor repeatedly say he does not live and die by the polls and perhaps it’s a good thing that he can’t run for re-election in two years because with these numbers, he might not like the outcome.
