(WLNS) – Thousands of people from across the state gathered at the Capitol today to hear preacher Franklin Graham’s message about America.
The son of world famous preacher Billy Graham, had one clear message for more than 8,000 Michigan Christians.
“Ladies and gentlemen, vote!,” Graham yelled.
At a unique, non-partisan rally, Graham says it is time for Americans to stand up as he sees things getting worse in the country.
“We are going the wrong direction,” Graham explained. “It’s got to be turned around or we’re finished”.
Christians from across the Great Lakes state, including Kaldikan Amare of Lansing, say this is an opportunity for the church to stand together and unite, for the sake of America’s future.
“It’s awesome to have someone who is merging our spiritual power but also the necessity for us to act and to engage with our politics, which is really awesome,” Amare said.
In a rare move this political season, Graham did not recommend one candidate for president over the other. In fact he believes the fate of this country lies with a much higher power.
“There’s no party, no individual that can turn this country around,” Graham expressed. “The only hope for the United States of America is God”.
Those gathered at the rally though do have an opinion on the matter.
“I can’t correlate Christianity with the Democratic party,” Tim Mattox from Port Huron explained.
If you take a sampling from this particular rally, it would appear Donald Trump is winning the evangelical vote, even if it is reluctantly.
“Trump was not my first choice,” Mattox said.
A reality Karen Neal from Charlotte also relates with.
“To begin with, to be honest, I was not a Trump backer”.
Both have now said they are fully supporting Trump moving forward in campaign 2016.
