MSU lands 4-star hoop recruit, Izzo looks back on first day of practice

EAST LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – Michigan state’s basketball team held its first practice today and sometime before Tom Izzo rolled the balls out he got news on another recruit for the class of 2017 who committed to MSU.

Two weeks after Jaren Jackson from near South Bend committed to the Spartans now Xavier Tillman from Grand Rapids says he will be a Spartan and join Jackson in 2017 in East Lansing.

He chose MSU over Purdue and Marquette.

That’s two recruits in that class who Purdue wanted very badly and lost out on.

Tillman is a 6-9 270-pound four-star power forward.

He was an AAU teammate of Jaren Jackson and now both will be Spartans.

As for this year and opening up practice today, Izzo still has to adapt to all the guys he lost from last year.

“I talked to Bryn and Zel yesterday, Dee yesterday, it’s just hard because those guys are special guys,” said coach Izzo. “That Costello, those three seniors have been through a lot of wars, been through a lot of things, had done a lot for their program and it’s hard not to miss them but watching guys come in like a Miles and Josh and especially Cashious who have bought into things so quickly makes me realize what an impact these guys last year really had.”
