Fans are lining up early to get a glimpse of Donald Trump during his visit to Michigan.
A 6 News crew spotted a long line of people at 10 a.m. camped outside the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi in hopes of getting a good spot.
The doors don’t even open to the public until 2 p.m., and the event isn’t supposed to start until 5 p.m. It’s very likely that several speakers will take the stage before the Republican presidential nominee comes out, as well.
This is Trump’s 5th visit to Michigan as the nominee. The state is important to Trump, who mentioned Michigan twice in the first presidential debate against Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
An August poll originally showed Clinton with a huge lead in Michigan. But her double digit gap then shrunk to as little as 4%. A more recent poll by the Detroit News and WDIV-TV, which was taken after the debate, put Clinton up by 7 points – with a 46% to 39% lead.
The same poll also shows Trump with 0% support in Detroit. But Trump’s rally is taking place in the more reliably Republican Oakland County.
6 News will, of course, have a crew at the campaign event and have full coverage for you tonight on 6 News at 5, 6, and 11.
