Marijuana grow operation found near EB I-96 & I-496 interchange, one arrest

UPDATE 11:05 a.m. – Investigators from the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office tell 6 News that an extensive marijuana growing operation was discovered in a search near the eastbound I-96 and eastbound I-496 interchange.

6 News is told one person was arrested when investigators found the man was wanted on warrants in another jurisdiction.

At 2:40 a.m. a call came in from a passerby at I-96 eastbound and I-496 that they saw a white male carrying what looked like a body wrapped in a blanket.

A search began in the area, and as daylight broke, officials discovered a marijuana grow operation, and what looked like a body wrapped in a blanket was marijuana plants being transported.

Eaton County Sheriff Tom Reich stressed no one is in danger.

Lansing Police assisted the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office with a K-9 and officer.

The investigation is continuing with more updates expected to come this afternoon.

EATON CO., Mich (WLNS) – The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that there is an active investigation at the eastbound I-96 and I-496 exchange.

Investigators have confirmed that the area is a crime scene.

There are multiple police vehicles on the scene and a helicopter overhead.

A spokesperson confirmed the activity with 6 News and said that the sheriff will issue a statement “when appropriate”.
