Lansing Police officer resigns after wheelchair collision

LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – A Lansing Police sergeant who was facing a misdemeanor charge for not yielding to a man in a wheelchair has resigned.

A Lansing Police spokesman tells 6 News that Charles Funk resigned September 12.

He was being investigated by the department and had been on administrative leave since August 18.

The Michigan State Police had found evidence that the man’s wheelchair had been hit by Funk’s patrol vehicle on August 8.

A trial is set for November 15.

Funk’s attorney claims the man in the wheelchair hit Funk’s vehicle and he has filed motion to dismiss the charge.
