Lansing girl drowns in Lake Michigan after falling off paddle board

MEARS, Mich. – A young Lansing resident died just offshore of west Michigan on Monday.

The Grand Rapids press reports that 10-year-old Hannah Harris was paddle-boarding in the lake when she fell into the water shortly before 4:00 p.m.

It happened near Charles Mears State Park near Pentwater, just south of Ludington.

First responders were called to the scene around 4:00 p.m., and officials from the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies were dispatched.

Harris was recovered twenty minutes later, but attempts to revive her with CPR were unsuccessful.

According to authorities, she wasn’t wearing a life jacket.
