LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – Police officers in our community always have our backs and Sunday hundreds of people showed them we have theirs, too.
It’s all part of what’s called “Backing the Blue”.
Friends and family members got together at our state’s Capitol this afternoon to rally around our local law enforcement.
The event is designed to show our support and appreciation for all the men and women who serve and protect our community, everyday, especially during a time when law enforcement both here and nationwide are under fire.
The free event was filled with food, music and activities including a raffle.
For those there who proudly wear the badge the rally was greatly appreciated.
“I couldn’t be prouder of all the agencies involved, the cohesiveness with the public, the people who showed up,” said MSP trooper Marco Jones. “This isn’t about us, this is about a partnership with the community and that’s what I’m really proud of, I couldn’t be prouder.”
Members of the community also paid tribute to fallen officers with a balloon release.
All donations from the event will go to benefit the Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Monument.
