UPDATE (7:03 p.m.): A Detroit father and mother have been charged in the death of their 11-month-old son.
The Wayne County prosecutor’s office says 30-year-old Lorenzo Brooks and 38-year-old Leticia Molton are expected to be arraigned Saturday on involuntary manslaughter and child abuse charges.
Prosecutors say the child was found unresponsive about 4 a.m. Thursday.
Police have said the boy’s father took the child to an east side hospital and left. The child was pronounced dead when he arrived about 5:30 a.m. Thursday at the hospital.
An autopsy was expected.
Brooks and Molton were arrested Thursday.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy said “there are babies in this county dying that should not be dying” and that “unsafe sleep practices can be just as fatal to a baby as a gun or knife.”
