EAST LANSING, Mich – Michigan State has gotten its first verbal commitment today for the Recruiting class of 2017 as Jaren Jackson, Jr. from La Lumiere High School near LaPorte, Indiana announced his intention to be a Spartan.
Jackson is considered a 5 Star Recruit who also considered Georgetown, Maryland, and nearby Notre Dame and Purdue before deciding on MSU.
Jackson is a 6 foot, 10-inch 225-pound power forward who will take a lot of pressure off Tom Izzo’s front line in the future.
Jackson’s father, Jaren Jackson, Sr. played for legendary coach John Thompson at Georgetown……and Georgetown and Purdue were considered to be the leading contenders for his services.
But Jackson made his decision to come to Michigan State today, on his birthday, and will enroll at MSU for the 2017-2018 school year.
He is ranked in the top 25 in the nation by most recruiting services.
