State, foundation partner on mental health, suicide-prevention campaign

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – The State of Michigan and the Opening Minds, Ending Stigma Campaign are working together to raise awareness of mental illness and combat suicide.
The campaign began over the weekend by airing a 30-minute documentary in the Detroit and Grand Rapids TV markets.
Internet and social media campaigns are also planned.
The documentary can be viewed for free at the campaign’s website.
Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley says the stigma associated with mental health issues often prevents people from seeking help.
The campaign is sponsored by the Ethel and James Flinn Foundation in Detroit and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
