OKEMOS, MI (WLNS) – Olive Garden restaurants across the country honored first responders with a lunch today.
It’s Labor Day, but for first responders at the Central Fire Station in Okemos, it’s just another day at the office.
“It seems that there’s some years you work all the holidays and then other years you have all of the holidays off. It’s kind of the luck of the draw,” said Okemos Central Fire Station Captain Bill Richardson.
So, as firefighters sacrifice their Labor Day to keep you safe, one restaurant is giving back to show them thanks.
Olive Garden manager Robby Buttery said, “for us, being a restaurant there’s so many dangers, so many things that could happen to our restaurant and in the community as well. The first responders will be there on their beck and call. They’ll be the ones that will be there no matter what and they’re so close by and they do such a quality job we want to make sure they’re taken care of on the one day that means the most to us.”
So, they’ll hang up their coat for just a moment to sit down and grab a bite to eat.
Cpt. Richardson said, “it’s nice that they honor police and firefighters that are on duty knowing that we aren’t able to have our Labor Day off. This 24/7 operation that we are going to be honored by Olive Garden is very nice.”
And, the employees didn’t think twice about helping out.
Olive Garden Service Professional Abby Janisch said, “I really like being involved in the community. I really like the feeling of giving back to those when I can. Especially working at Olive Garden I’ve gotten a lot of opportunities to do so. That’s really helped me as a person to grow a little bit and it’s nice to help some people out.”
A nice show of support to those who serve for a living.
This is the 15th year of the Labor Day lunch deliveries.
