UPDATE: Lansing mayor declares housing emergency at Magnuson Hotel

LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero has declared a housing emergency at the Magnuson Hotel in south Lansing.

The declaration is triggered by the notice yesterday from the hotel owners that the building was going to evict the residents within two weeks.

By making the declaration the residents become eligible for priority placement at public housing units managed by the city.

The Magnuson Hotel provides temporary shelter for about 89 people who otherwise would be homeless.

The program is run by the Homeless Angels, a local non-profit agency.
