JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) — We have an update on a discovery that shocked mid-Michigan, a dead baby found buried behind his parents’ home in Jackson County last month.
The child’s parents have both been charged with hiding the body.
It was supposed to be a revealing day in court Tuesday, with the prosecution laying out their case against the child’s parents, Brittani Hill and Timothy Young, in a preliminary hearing.
But it turns out, the investigation isn’t over.
“Part of that investigation is determining the cause and manner of death, so additional charges could be coming,” said Jackson County Assistant Prosecutor Jeremiah Smith.
The baby boy was found last month, buried behind a home in Waterloo Township.
His parents, Hill and Young, were found living in Dayton, Ohio.
Since then, police have been able to determine that the child was 9 months old and could have been buried there since February.
But there is lots of mystery surrounding this case.
Investigators still don’t know how the baby died or who’s responsible.
“She’s been talking to detectives. She’s been cooperative with the police,” said Defense Attorney Jared Hopkins.
Only Hill appeared today in court.
With her bond set at $500,000, her attorney argued it should be lowered.
“There are murder cases that don’t even have $500,000 bonds,” Hopkins said.
But the prosecution hit back, revealing that Hill and Young have a two-year-old child together.
“Judge, the two-year-old child is not hers. She has no custody rights to that two year old child,” Hopkins said.
The judge lowered her bond to $100,000 dollars.
With new evidence coming in, the preliminary hearing for these parents has been pushed back to September 27.
