Carlton Valentine stepping down as Sexton basketball coach

LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – Lansing Sexton High basketball coach Carlton Valentine is stepping down.

6 Sports Director Fred Heumann has learned that Valentine will not coach for the Big Reds this coming season.

Valentine said in an email “I’ve experienced amazing Highs and Very few lows while I’ve coached hundreds of great young men over the Last Decade. The Kids were awesome to work with.”

Valentine took his team to the Michigan High School State Finals 3 years in a row; 2010, 2011, 2012, and won the Class B Championship in 2011 and 2012.

He played for the MSU Spartans from 1984-1988.

Valentine coached both his sons, Drew and Denzel during his two stints as Sexton head coach.

Denzel Valentine just completed his Spartan career and has signed with the NBA Chicago Bulls.
