MASON, Mich (WLNS) – We have an update on that puppy that was found last week in a dumpster.
The nine-week-old pup is doing well enough to be adopted and the person responsible for throwing the dog away has been identified.
Tips from the community led to finding out who dumped the dog, now named Spartacus, in the trash bin.
“We are thankful to the community for their help in this case,” said Director, John Dinon. “At this point, we have identified the person who abandoned the puppy and we will be pursuing criminal charges.”
The puppy will be available for adoption next Monday, August 22.
Applications will be adopted through 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20. Those applications must be turned in in person at the Ingham County Animal Control Shelter at 600 Curtis Street in Mason. Applicants must include a paragraph explaining why they would be the best forever home for Spartacus.
“Spartacus has had a rough start and we want to ensure that he gets the best home possible,” said Ashley Shaffier, ICAC volunteer coordinator.
The puppy was found on August 11 inside a south Lansing dumpster after Animal Control officers received a tip from someone who had heard the dog. He was suffering from dehydration and officers told 6 News the pup likely would have died inside the trash bin.
