EATON CO., Mich (WLNS) – Two 15-year-old boys, including the son of a candidate for Eaton County sheriff, today are charged with serious sex crimes.
According to prosecutors, Brody McPhail, son of sheriff candidate Fred McPhail, and Hunter Chance of Ludington are each charged with one count of Criminal Sexual Conduct 1st degree.
They are also charged with child sexually abusive activity and child sexual activity distribution with a child under 13.
Jackson County Prosecutor Jerry Jarzynka is handling the case because the Eaton County prosecutors have recused themselves.
Jarzynka tells 6 News that certain felony crimes allow prosecutors to file cases with juveniles in adult court. Jarzynka said the seriousness of these crimes convinced him to file in adult court.
Bond has been set for each teen at $25,000 with special conditions for the two.
McPhail has posted bond while Chance is being held in a youth facility.
They are both due back in court next week.
