Police arrest man in mall threat case

Meridian Township police say they’ve arrested a man in connection with a threat that prompted the evacuation of the Meridian Mall on Friday night.

Police posted a picture of two men they say were “persons of interest” after someone reported overhearing a threat to “shoot up the mall” and that they had the weapon to do it.

Police say they received a number of tips after the event, and were able to make an arrest on Saturday morning.

The person won’t be identified until he’s formally charged, but police say they don’t believe there’s any further threat to the public.

The mall was evacuated at around 6:30 p.m. Friday night and did not re-open that day.

It re-opened for business today.
