LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – Michigan voters will cast their ballots in one week.
While there are hundreds of proposals and candidates on the ballot we here at 6 News wanted to be here for you highlighting the six candidates running for Ingham County prosecutor.
Every day this week we’re highlighting a candidate hoping to get your vote in the August 2nd primary and eventually on the ballot in November.
Today we showcase Democrat Thomas English. He says he’s running because he doesn’t just talk about change, he’s done it.
He is currently a private practice attorney who has been a lawyer for more than 25 years and has tried hundreds of cases.
English was a cabinet secretary for the state of New Mexico. And feels he is the best person for the job because he says a time for change is necessary and he can provide that change with his experience and background.
“I just don’t talk about what I would do. I’ve done them. When it comes to being a cabinet secretary in New Mexico, I’ve wrestled with the State Legislature over almost a hundred million dollar budget,” said English. “I’ve had an agency with 1300 employees. I’ve supervised dozens and dozens of attorneys in Afghanistan, where I was making sure human rights were afforded, proper defense was accorded to our attorneys and going toe-to-toe with the military leaders who didn’t want us to provide that but making sure they did. I think also being administrative law judge, I’ve learned very much in those 4,000 to 5,000 cases how to listen to people. I think that’s what’s missing. We need to listen to people, we need to be a proactive prosecutors office, not a reactive office and we need to bring this change in Ingham County.”
