JACKSON, Mich (WLNS) – There have been some heartbreaking times in recent months involving law enforcement and the public.
Tensions are high and mistrust is building. Stress seems to dominate police and public interactions.
Then there was a moment today in Jackson when none of that mattered.
According to Jackson Police deputy chief Elmer Hitt, officers were called to a scene where a kitten had worked itself way up under a car.
The car owner didn’t know what to do and the kitten wasn’t budging. It was hot and getting hotter under the car.
But one Jackson Police officer came up with a creative solution. He ran to a nearly Dollar General store, purchased a can of salmon and was able to coax the kitten to safety.
Not exactly high drama but it was a moment when creative problem solving combined with an act of kindness during a hot summer day.
The kitten is doing well and made itself comfortable during a ride in the back of a police cruiser. It will soon be available for adoption at the Jackson County Animal Shelter.
