Body of 18-year-old recovered from lake in Livingston County

HARTLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say the body of an 18-year-old suburban Detroit man who jumped from a boat into a lake in Livingston County to swim has been found.

The Livingston Daily Press & Argus of Howell reports Hartland Deerfield Fire Marshal Michael Bernardin confirmed that divers recovered the body of the Chesterfield Township man about 25 to 30 feet from shore in Handy Lake following a Monday search.

Bernardin says the man, whose name wasn’t immediately released, wasn’t wearing a life jacket.

Authorities say the man was on a pontoon boat with a group of friends and cousins ranging in age from 15 to 18 who were fishing. They say that he apparently became hot and jumped in for a swim, but didn’t resurface.
