Emojis at the ballpark – hit or miss?

LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – Major league baseball is a game rich in traditions. Minor league baseball? Not so much.

Case in point: Tonight is Social Media Night for the West Michigan Whitecaps in Grand Rapids.

Players will be wearing their pajamas uniform tops emblazoned with a variety of emojis. Subtle. Refined.

The Whitecaps are the Class-A Midwest League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, who wear the traditional Old English D on their uniforms. The Lansing Lugnuts are big rivals of the Whitecaps.

It’s all about Social Media Night at the ballpark. You know, when everyone gathers for a ballgame and, instead of talking to each other, texts emojis back and forth.

Here are a couple of Whitecaps players modeling what they’ll be wearing. You can feel the excitement…
