Former Haslett High band booster faces embezzlement charges

HASLETT, Mich (WLNS) – She was responsible for raising money but instead police say a former Haslett High School band booster member stole thousands of dollars.

Karrie LaFave is facing two counts of embezzlement from a non-profit organization.

According to the high school, band booster officers started noticing discrepencies in their funds last year. The Meridian Township Police were called in and their investigation found that there were financial “improprieties”.

The focus of the investigation centered on LaFave and that led to two counts of embezzlement in the amount of $1,000-$20,000 each. Investigators tell 6 News that, with the two counts, a total of at least $30,000 was taken.

Those involved with the band boosters program say it’s going to take time to get back to where they need to be to operate as “normal.”
