UPDATE: DeWitt man dies in I-69 crash in Shiawassee County

UPDATE 12:05 p.m. – The Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office has released more information on the victim of a two-vehicle crash yesterday on I-69. A 34-year-old DeWitt man died when the car he was driving crashed with a semi-truck near Woodbury Road just before 1:30 p.m. The crash closed the eastbound lanes of I-69 for hours. The cause has not yet been determined but investigators say speed was not a factor.

UPDATE 4:23 p.m. – The Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that one man has died in an accident this afternoon on I-69. The accident involved a car and a semi-truck. I-69 remains closed as investigators remain on the scene. It is not known how long eastbound I-69 will remain closed so drivers are advised to seek alternate routes.

Original Story: SHIAWASSEE CO., Mich (WLNS) – Investigators are on the scene of an accident that involved at least one car in Shiawassee County.

Shortly after 2:00 p.m. the eastbound lanes of I-69 were closed at Woodbury Road because of an accident.

The crash left a debris field across I-69 near Colby Lake Road.

Eyewitnesses tell 6 News that a semi-truck was also involved in the crash.

The Michigan State Police, Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office and Laingsburg Police are all on the scene.

Just after 3:10 p.m. a tarp was draped across the driver side of the car, which appeared to have had its roof sheared off.
