State makes an error in mailed Medicare letters

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – If you got a letter in the mail recently saying you can no longer get state assistance for certain Medicare, then there is new information you need to hear.

A major glitch over at the Department of Health and Human Services resulted in thousands of seniors getting letters like that by mistake.

Department officials say its computers wrongfully listed about 12,000 people as ineligible for Medicare assistance.

If you think you received one of those letters it’s a good idea to call and double check.

Seniors who meet income requirements can get state help paying Medicare premiums, deductibles and co-pays.

The DHS is working on correcting the error and making sure everyone gets the benefits to which they’re entitled.
