Sheriff’s department mourns loss of K-9 officer

The Ingham County Sheriff’s Department is mourning the loss of one of it’s dogs today.

Nicko died Thursday after complications from surgery.

The German Shepherd had been a member of the department for 5 years. He was 6-years-old.

While with the department, Nicko worked on patrol and on detecting explosives. He was also a member of the Ingham Regional Special Response Team.

His partner was Deputy Chad Doyle.

During his career, the sheriff says Nicko world alongside the FBI, DEA, U.S. Marshals, Homeland Security, and helped catch fugitives. He also once helped the Secret Service with a presidential visit.
