Inspectors shut down Livingston Co. bridge

LIVINGSTON CO., Mich (WLNS) – A routine bridge inspection by the Livingston County Road Commission escalated into an immediate shutdown of the span.

According to our media partners at WHMI the Mason Road Bridge between Burkhart and Norton Road in Howell and Marion Townships will be closed until June 7.

Inspectors found the underside of the bridge had a large amount of corrosion. For the past six years the bridge has been monitored.

Road Commission Managing Director Mike Craine says he believes heavy truck traffic and motorists driving faster than posted speeds are the main factors in the deterioriation.

Detours will not be posted and motorists should plan their travel accordingly.
